Last night’s ‘Sorta Unofficial New Zealand Film Awards’ (or ‘The Moas’ as they’re also called) were a great success for all those involved with ‘The Orator — O Le Tulafale’, the first feature-length Samoan language film filmed entirely on location in Samoa, which won 8 awards. Our own acting tutor Maiava Nathaniel Lees was involved as associate producer and casting director as well as Toi graduate Tausili Pushparaj, who won ‘Best Actress in a Feature Film’ for her role as Vaaiga in the film.
Another winner at the awards was the Toi Master of Theatre Arts (Directing) graduate Alyx Duncan, who won the ‘Best Self-Funded Film’ category with her film ‘The Red House’ — a story about the endurance of love in the face of cultural upheaval, environmental neglect, and the universal process of ageing.
You can watch a trailer for her film HERE
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees.
