Toi Whakaari congratulates Tumuaki/Director Tanea Heke on her recent New Years Honours. A celebration of outstanding New Zealanders, Tanea was recognised as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to arts and Māori.

We couldn’t be more proud of this wahine toa and her whānau and supporters who stand behind and beside her. She continues to pave the way forward for the next generation of artists and change-makers to come.

We also wish to acknowledge Peter Broughton (Rāwiri Paratene) who has been appointed as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori, film and theatre.
